Transport
Today Izhevsk is a large transport centre of the region. It is connected with other regions by railway, highway and air service and it has advanced city transport system.
The largest transport companies in the industry are State Unitary Enterprise of the Udmurt Republic "Izhevsk production association of passenger motor-transport", JSC "Izhevsk department of Gorkov railway road - subsidiary of JSC "RZD", JSC "Port Kambarka", JSC "River port "Sarapul", JSC "Izhavia".
Railway transport
Railway transport is the first in cargo carriage capacity.
According to state industrial program for improving train traffic safety on railway transport designed for implementation till 2010, introduction of new equipment and technologies and use of data information systems is performed.
To provide stable work of railway enterprises and improve servicing of Udmurt population, here is performed the Program of joint actions of Gorkov railway road - subsidiary of JSC "RZD" and the Government of the Udmurt Republic in the period from 2006 to 2009 for execution of General agreement about interaction and cooperation in the field of railway transport.
Reconstruction of the second extension of railway terminal at "Izhevsk" station and reconstruction of railway terminal at "Glazov" station is performed in the frame of this Program.
Highway transport
Highway transport has considerable share in transportation of passengers and goods.
In 2006 over 2 mln. tons of goods and 219 mln. passengers were transported by highway transport.
Cargo turnover amounted to 183 mln. ton-kilometers, passenger turnover - about 1516 mln. passenger-kilometers.
Udmurt production association of bus terminals and passenger bus stations performs transportation of passengers on suburb, intercity and interregional routes. The association includes 3 bus terminals, 25 stations and 15 pay-offices located on the territory of the Republic.
There are 77 intercity and 316 suburb routes in the Republic.
Passenger highway transportation agreements with the Republic of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Orenburg region, Kirov region, Samara region and Perm region are executed. This allows to improve interregional transport communications and expand the volume of provided services. Advanced technologies, which allow to work at their best under conditions of exchange relations, are being introduced.
Air trasport
Air transport in the Udmurt Republic is represented by JSC "Izhavia". Airport of JSC "Izhavia" meets the standards of "B" class and has a paved runway with the length of 2500 meters, conforming the 1st category of ICAO international association.
The air company operates such the following aircrafts: Yak-42, Tu-134, An-24, An-26. At the moment aircraft fleet of JSC "Izhavia" includes 9 aircrafts.
Waterborne transport
Mileage of internal navigable waterway within the Udmurt Republic is 183 km.
River ports: JSC "River port "Sarapul" and JSC "Kambarka port" perform cargo and passenger transportations, mining and sale of nonmetallic construction materials, cargo handling operations, flee repair services. Nonmetallic construction materials are supplied to customers of the Udmurt Republic, Republic of Tatarstan, Republic of Bashkortostan, Republic of Chuvashia, Nizhegorodskaya region and other regions of the Russian Federation.
In 2006 waterborne transport of the Udmurt Republic transported about 890 ths. tons of goods, cargo turnover amounted to over 290 mln. ton-kilometers.
